Whoever said the power of the pen is mightier than a sword, has obviously not lived to write about it.
So pretty much,I have not been fulfilling my promise to keep you posted on my book progress. My summer full of reading is not going as smoothly as planned.HA!!!!! Then again, when does life ever go smoothly?? My days have become bombarded with Linear Equations and other math things.. not exactly how I envisioned my summer. No tanning for me.. the closes thing I am doing is TANgent questions. I don't think I will burn from that. It's a pity, but what can ya do?
To fill you in, I have been taking a Math class this past month, (puke)! Now for people who do not know me, I am NOT a math kind of person. I would rather spend my days eating worms than doing math. YUM YUM YUM! (sarcasm)
The funny thing is, is that I am receiving good marks in this class. (Not that I am a bad student). I just have never been one to have high marks in mathematic subjects. GO ME! Talk about irony hey?
Moving on, because frankly I don't want to waste my breath talking about math.(puke).
BOOKS. Okay so I have gotten a start on my Summer Reading, and so far have done decently well. I have read Stone Angel, by Margaret Laurence. This book fascinates me because each character she has created is vivid and has so many sides, it really makes you think about the life that you lead. Books have the ability to do that, it is amazing, the power of the right words is a great thing. With the generation we are living in, words and language is changing. Society doesn't read anymore. With social networks like Facebook and Twitter, how are people going to learn about the world we live in. (Now don't get me wrong, I have a Facebook) But what really is the point? I would rather write and express myself so other people can take what I say and THINK about it rather than looking at pictures of people they barely know, and learning nothing.Knowledge is something people don't always seek, and it is a shame.
Hagar has touched me, in an unexpected way. She has made me THINK about what I want from this life. And Hagar Shipley doesn't even exist, the power of Margaret Laurence's words was able to take a person's mind on a trip and caused it to think about life in a different perspective by placing Hagar as a teacher. I don't know if she meant to do that, but none the less, I am grateful.
If you have not read The Stone Angel, please pick it up and read it. If you can sincerely look past the story and into the words, there is definetley something there to learn.
You can learn alot from a book, you just have to find the right words to learn from.
If you have any book suggestions, email me at kaleahbilinski@shaw.ca
So with that note, I bid a farewell! ( For now, or at least another couple months.. lol) I promise not to keep you waiting this time!!

ReplyDeleteGood luck on your final!
I'm definitely going to have to pick up that book. I'm not a math person either and I'm going to college for business which equals a lot of math (gags) my grades have been well for the most part.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm reading an autobiography by Adeline Yen Mah called Falling Leaves: The True Story of an Unwanted Chinese Daughter
It's very touching and a bit sad.
It sounds good, I will have to look that one up!
ReplyDeleteYeah Math is one of those lousy subjects. I am not gonna lie! Thanks for the comments you two! :)
